A Light Change
Previously, this section of the owner’s house was very dark with almost no natural lighting and an old, angled tin roof which made the space feel small & closed in.
A new roof was built that included a large sky light, combined with tall external glass doors that replaced the back wall to flood the space with natural light.
The owner had a very clear idea of colours from the beginning, opting for an on-trend combination of matte black, timber and mirror. She also wanted a walk in pantry and an island with informal seating. The budget was tight but by using used good quality laminates and a simple 20mm profile for the stone benchtop we were able to keep costs down.
Wilsonart Traceless is laminate with Anti-fingerprint technology that ensures smears, smudges and marks are almost never seen, making it remarkably easier to maintain than traditional polyurethane in a dark colour. It is also more durable and has a beautiful velvet feel to the touch.
The addition of the mirror helps to brighten the area even more. The drop down seating as an extension of the island makes for lovely informal dining and a more relaxed area for breakfast and family interaction.
